Firstly we will visit to the original home to monks of the Cistercian order who came to Om one spring day in 1172. The Monastic Museum of Denmark is situated scenically between the lakes of Mossø and Gudensø in Jutland. It the museum you can look at the ruins of the most thoroughly excavated monastery from the Middle Ages in Denmark called Øm in Danish. In latin the name was Cara Insula or in English The Precious Island. The museum exhibit many of the finds and skeletons discovered in the course of the archaeological digs. In the ruin park there is a monastery garden with 80 different cultivated plants that in the Middle Ages were used as medicinal plants, edible herbs or were otherwise used in the household. The brewery contains plants that the monks used to brew beer, among other things. hops, malting barley and porce. There is also an exhibition about the processes of medieval beer brewing. Our next stop we will make at the Ribe which was founded around year 700,  Ribe is the oldest town, not only in Denmark, but in all of Scandinavia. Back in the Viking Era (793–1066 AD), it was an important trade town for the vikings because of its strategic location linking Scandinavia with the rest of the Nordic countries. Since then, Ribe has seen its fair share of turmoil. First a devastating fire in 1580 where 213 houses burned down, and then a severe flooding in 1634 that caused serious damage. But Ribe kept its medieval charm. A walk through Ribe is like a walk through Ribe's and Denmark's history. More than 100 preserved houses, half-timbered architecture, cobblestone streets and narrow alleys have will trought you to history of Denmark.During the tour you will see The Head Meadow and Danhostel Ribe, Grønnegade - the King's street, The Kings Castle Riberhus and the beloved Queen Dagmar,Storm Surges and Ribe Harbour - an important medieval North Sea port and Denmark’s gateway to Western Europe, Open-air court and Guild Signs, Hotel Dagmar and Porsborg, Old Town Hall and Ribe's Night Watchman, Maren Spliid (Splids) - One of Ribe's witches, The Cathedral and the Commoner’s Tower, The Latin school - and the birthplace of Jakob A. Riis, Hans Tausen's house and half-timbered buildings in Sønderportsgade, Taarnborg and the small "town-houses" - Medieval houses, Puggaard, The smallest house in Ribe, St Catherine's Church and Abbey,Koelholt Slippe, Ebbe Mogensen's gable house and Ribe Brackets, Gable houses in the main street, Nederdammen 31,Ribe main street, the dam and the river and Ribe’s Northern gate. After city tour we will visit to the Ribe Viking Centre where you step more than 1,000 years back into the Viking Era, meeting  face to face with the blacksmith, the King's minter, the völva, the lady of the house, the thrall (slave), the warrior, the falconer, the carpenter, the farmer and all the animals on his estate. Visit the craftspeople and the völva in the Marketplace 710 AD and take a stroll down to Ripa Harbour 750 AD where the merchants' boats are moored. In Ripa Town 825 AD you are welcome to step inside the Vikings' houses like for instance the beautiful Thing-hall. The Ansgar Church 860 AD stands on the opposite river bank. Make sure you get to see this lovely decorated wooden church. The Manor Farm 980 AD provides an excellent insight into Viking Age agriculture, whereas you will find the warriors and archers within the Ring Wall 980 AD.After we will return to Aarhus.
