Route: Athens - Diakofto - “Odontotos” train - Vouraikos - Cave of the Lakes - Kalavryta - Mega Spilaio monastery - Athens

Starting from Athens we will be driving for about two hours via the Athens-Patra highway before we arrive at the seaside village of Diakofto. From Diakofto you will be taking the “odontotos” train that climbs up to Kalavryta.
“Odontotos” train follows a wonderful journey into the Vouraikos gorge and runs next to Vouraikos river through the forest and in some cases through the mountain. The duration of this terrific ride is 60 minutes. Your driver will be waiting for at Kalavryta’s railway station. The tour will continue with an additional 15 minute drive to the “Cave of the Lakes” , a unique monument of natural beauty and also a mythical place with many secrets and mysteries. On the way back to Kalavryta we can have a stop at the imposing memorial, at the site of the execution of every man over 14 years old from the village of Kalavryta by the German Nazis on December 13, 1943 during the World War 2. At Kalavryta you can also visit the Museum of the Holocaust that also reminds us this dark page of our Modern History. Of course we cannot skip tasting delicious local food at one of the traditional Greek restaurants at the picturesque square of Kalavryta. On our way back we can have a stop at the monastery of “Mega Spilaio”. Two hours later we will have returned to Athens filled with beautiful images, thoughts and experiences.
