Route: Bologna - Florence - Uffizi Gallery - Bologna
Duration: 10 h
Florence is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Where even the gardens, monuments, buildings, and streets are, in many cases, veritable masterpieces. Walking down the streets of Florence is like walking through the halls of a big open air museum. However, even if the outdoors has so much to offer, don’t forget that Florence is home to some of the most important ‘indoor museums’ in the world! The Uffizi museum, for example, is famous all around the globe and the Galleria dell’Accademia has a wonderful gallery of statues, among them the Michelangelo’s world-celebrated David, among many more! Remember, Florence city center is listed as World Heritage by UNESCO. Florence's museums, palaces, and churches house some of the greatest artistic treasures in the world. The most popular and important sites in Florence include the Cathedral, the Baptistery, the Uffizi, the Bargello, and the Accademia. The churches of Santa Maria Novella and Santa Croce are veritable art galleries, and the library of San Lorenzo is a magnificent exhibition of Michelangelo's architectural genius. Wander some of the oldest streets in the city until you reach the Arno River, cross the Ponte Vecchio, and experience the "newest" area of Florence, the Oltrarno. Be sure to set aside time to see the vast and varied art collection housed in the Pitti Palace. During our visit you will see Piazza della Signoria, Ponte Vecchio, the Duomo, Orsanmichele. We will discuss the urban development of Florence from its Roman foundations to present day; we will observe those peculiar aspects of medieval Florence – its narrow alleys and its towers, of Renaissance palaces, of churches, bridges, and elements of daily life. We will discuss the city’s artists and their patrons. We’ll also talk about- how money was made, the banking system of the 15th century, and how money was spent. Also we will visit to the Uffizi Gallery entirely occupies the first and second floors of the large building constructed between 1560 and 1580 and designed by Giorgio Vasari. It is famous worldwide for its outstanding collections of ancient sculptures and paintings (from the Middle Ages to the Modern period). The collections of paintings from the 14th-century and Renaissance period include some absolute masterpieces: Giotto, Simone Martini, Piero della Francesca, Beato Angelico, Filippo Lippi, Botticelli, Mantegna, Correggio, Leonardo, Raffaello, Michelangelo and Caravaggio, in addition to many precious works by European painters (mainly German, Dutch and Flemish). Moreover, the Gallery boasts an invaluable collection of ancient statues and busts from the Medici family, which adorns the corridors and consists of ancient Roman copies of lost Greek sculptures. After free time we return to Bologna.
