Route: Gothenburg - Oscar II Fort - Tjoloholms castle - Gothenburg

The first stop in our tour will be at Oscar II Fort. Oskar II's fort was built at Västerberget in Gothenburg from 1899 to 1907 to protect the inlet to Gothenburg. Previously, only New Älvsborg's fortress from the 17th century was protected for the city and this fortress had finally been removed from the kingdom's permanent defense in 1868. Oskar II's fort was built as a regular rock facility with storage, fire control and crew spaces under a thick mountain cover. The fort was equipped with four batteries: Battery I with two 15.2 cm guns in armor cups, Battery II with two 24 cm guns in self-immersing lids, Battery III with four 57 mm guns in armor cups and Götiska battery with four 57 mm guns. All cannons from the batteries I-III were moved in conjunction with World War II to more modern stands. Recently, the two 24 cm gun tubes from Battery II have been returned to the fort. After we will drive to Tjoloholm castle. Tjolöholm Castle is one of Scandinavia’s leading Arts and crafts properties. The luxurious castle was finished in 1904, and is said to be one of Sweden’s most amazing buildings. The architect Lars Israel Wahlman designed it in the Tudor style for merchant James Fredrik Dickson and his wife, Blanche. The Castle’s lavish fittings had all the modern comforts of the day, such as one of the first vacuum cleaners, which weighed almost a ton, and state of the art surround showers. Visitors are look to round many of the castle’s 36 rooms. After the visit we will back to Gothenburg.
