Our first stop will be at Marienburg Castle was built between 1858 and 1867 by King George V as a gift to his wife, Queen Marie. When the Royal family was exciled to Austria, the Schloss Marienburg was uninhabited for 80 years until it was safe for them to return. In 1945, the Duke of Brunswick and his wife, Princess Viktoria Luise of Prussia moved to Schloss Marienburg. Marienburg Castle is very well preserved as few renovations were done until 1945. Today, the interior and the lavish outer appearance of the castle are almost entirely preserved. You will visit the state rooms and private rooms of the royal family, the Queen’s library which is one of the most beautiful rooms in the castle and the kitchen which is fully preserved. Next we will visit to the Hildesheim which is best known for its churches, two of which – Hildesheim Cathedral and St. Michael's Church – bear witness to Romanesque-style religious art from the Holy Roman Empire in an extraordinary fashion. UNESCO acknowledged this by including St. Michael’s Church and the Cathedral of the Assumption of Mary in the World Heritage list in 1985. The two churches are home to an extraordinarily large collection of historic interior furnishings, offering a spectacular insight into traditional church design in the Roman Empire. The legendary Thousand-year Rose, which scales the apse of the cathedral, is also a head-turner. Visitors can find world-class art and historic cultural treasures in Hildesheim’s museums. The Roemer and Pelizaeus Museum in Hildesheim is most famous for its Ancient Egyptian collection. The Dommuseum (Cathedral Museum) is home to a selection of precious artefacts from various periods throughout the cathedral's history and houses the cathedral treasury, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. During our visit you will see the Hildesheim Cathedral, known as the Mariendom, theHildesheim Cathedral Museum and the St. Michael’s Church. After free time we return to Hanover.
