Our first stop will be at Colmar. Described by Frommer’s as ‘one of the most attractive towns in Alsace’, Colmar is situated in east-central France, in a border region that was once disputed between France and Germany. The city is renowned for its well preserved old town, its numerous architectural landmarks and its museums, among which is the Unterlinden Museum with the Isenheim Altarpiece. Our tour will lead you to the “Maison des Tetes”, an outstanding German Renaissance building and to the Little Venice neighborhood where gorgeous half timbered houses are lined along the Lauch River. Other significant landmarks include the Koifhus, the Pfister house, Saint Martin church, the Unterlinden Museum that houses world famous Isenheim Altarpiece, the covered market and so much more… Our next stop in this tour will be at Kaysersberg is considered one of the most charming cities in Alsace, with its paved streets and half-timbered houses. The town is in a very picturesque setting, in a valley surrounded by vineyards and with forested hills rising above the town. As soon as you enter Kaysersberg you fnd the nice main square which is surrounded by lots of painted half-timber buildings, and a very pleasant main street. Along the edges of the river there are numerous brightly painted half-timber houses, and the Weiss river is crossed by a lovely 16th century fortified stone bridge further adding to the charming picture - delightful! Another notable landmark within the town is the 13th-15th century Church Sainte-Croix. The front facade is among the oldest parts of the church, and in roman style - enter the church through the ornately carved doorway to see the impressive 16th century altarpiece by Jean Bongart. Also you will see the Maison Herzer, the Maison Faller Brief and the Maison Bohn were all built during the 10 years from 1591 to 1601 and are three of the grandest houses in Kaysersburg. When you have finished exploring the historical centre of Kaysersberg be sure to stop in a cafe, perhaps to sample Tokay, the local wine. Our next stop will be at Riquewihr which is winegrowing community on the Wine Route (altitude 300 m), Riquewihr currently is a member of the Association of the Most Beautiful Villages in France.Surrounded by vineyards, this fortified town is a jewel. The village of Riquewihr is full of with beautiful colourful half-timbered residences and facades decorated with old shop signs. Some houses are decorated with pretty oriel windows. Omnipresent flowers and creepers add to the charm of the village. There we will visit to winery where you can tast the local wines. Their premises are located in the heart of the old city of Riquewihr, which is visited by over two million people every year. The winery and tasting room has been located in the same spot for the last 370 years in the center of Riquewihr. Our tour takes you to tight underground quarters of various fermenting and aging tanks of concrete, stainless steel, and wooden barrels. You are will see one huge barrel that has been certified by the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest wine barrel in continuous use. During the visit you will tast several wines from the entry range to the top-of-the-line wines designated as Grand Cru. These wines are full flavored and elegant. After we will return to Strasbourg.
