Route: Zaragoza - Logrono - Pamplona - San Sebastian - Zaragoza
Duration: 14 h
We will walk through the center of Logroño touring its history in the most emblematic points of the city. The visit starts with the “rampart of Revellín”, historic trace of the walls of the city. Close to it, the “Convent of la Merced”, nowadays the Parliament of La Rioja, whose façade dates from the XVII century. Walking through the typical streets of Barriocepo or Ruavieja we find the “church of Santiago”, the oldest church in the city, and the “church of Palacio”, with its magnificent gothic spire. In the park around the Ebro River we can see the iron and the stone bridges which mark the borders of Logroño with the neighbor regions. Following the route of the way to Santiago, we arrive to the famous “Juego de la Oca” (Goose Game), the Pilgrim Fountain, the Pilgrims’ hostel, old houses and restored palaces. Where once was the Jewish quarter, is placed the “church of San Bartolomé” with its great gothic facade. Leaving these typical streets, we arrive to the Redonda Cathedral, with its two twin towers, and with one of Michelangelo Buonarotti treasures inside it. The route goes on with the “Palace of Espartero”, nowadays Museum of La Rioja. The next point to visit is the “Paseo del Espolón”, meeting point for tourists and locals, where the statue of General Espartero is placed. The visit ends in the typical “Calle Laurel”, tasting a “tapa”, and a wine from La Rioja. Our next stop will be at Pamplona, in which we will visit all the main attractions in Pamplona's Old Town. The main square (Plaza del Castillo), visiting the Café Iruña where Hemingway spent many hours during his visits to Pamplona, the Fueros Monument, the City Hall plus the Three Old Neighbourhoods of the city. We will walk through the streets where Pilgrims walk since 9th century towards Santiago de Compostela, and also where the Running of the Bulls is held, and of course, we will finish our tour in the Bullring. Also you will see Pamplona City Hall, Running of the Bulls street, Cathedral facade, Estafeta Street, Bullring, Castle Square, the Gardens of the Taconera, the City-Walls.The last stop of our tour will be at San Sebastian. We will start with a quick history of the Basque people, culture and language and you will know  why you are not in Spain, but in the Basque Country. We will then set off on our leisurely paced walk through the city exploring 1 out of the 2 major markets in San Sebastian as well as the Beach area, Promenade, Port and Old Town as we point out some of the local landmarks. Also you will see many other things that you will find very interesting and possibly helpful for the remainder of your stay here. The next to the statue of Don Quijote, in Plaza Cervantes we'll begin our walking tour of the historic centre of this beautiful Basque city, famous for its La Concha beach, and its delicious pinchos! The first stop will be Plaza Guipúzcoa, one of the most emblematic spots in the city, and home to the city's local government. Then we'll make our way to Alameda del Boulevard, the city's shopping hub, and the area that connects the old and new parts of Donostia (the Basque name for San Sebastian!). Next, we'll explore the streets lined with pincho spots (a popular kind of Basque tapas with fish, meat, or other delicacies on bread, spiked with a toothpick) and discover the central role they play in the local culture and society. San Sebastian has, on several occasions, been chosen as one of the world's best gastronomic locations, and it's clear to see why! Finally, we'll wander Calle Mayor, at the end of which you can find the Baroque basilica of Santa María del Coro and after we'll head back to the La Concha beach, to admire the beautiful town hall. After that we will return to Zaragoza.
