Route: Sarajevo
Duration: 2 h

Sarajevo is one of the most oriental and culturally diverse cities in Europe, and had spent over 300 years under Turkish rule until the Austro-Hungarians arrived in the late nineteenth century. The empire collapsed 50 years later when Archduke Ferdinand was assassinated here, hastening the outbreak of the First World War. This walking tour of the old historical and cultural centre will help participants piece together its complex and fascinating history. Sites to see are The ancient olde towne - Sarajevo's medieval beginnings, Olde Towne Hall (National Library), Brusa Bezistan (the trading centre) - Sarajevo City Museum, Kazandziluk Street - old coppersmiths at work.
