Firstly we will arrival to Berchtesgaden. The town of Berchtesgaden was formed around the Collegiate Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, built in 1102. The town grew and by the 1500s there was a bustling marktplatz (market square) with a farmers' market . The tower of the Hirschenhaus (deer House) punctuates the Alp-backed skyline. The altstadt (old town) is beautifully adorned with intricate murals. Known as lüftlmalerei (Bavarian frescoes), Berchtesgaden has the oldest non-religious murals in the Bavarian Alps. The Hirschenhaus's 1610 Monkey Facade looks like a historical scene when standing back, but on closer review you see the townspeople have monkey faces. According to a local historian, this unusual work of art was done to spite the patrons who wouldn't pay.Our next stop will be at the King’s Lake (Königssee) which is one of the most majestic places in Europe.  It is an angelic emerald fjord lined by powerful Alpine mountains that never fails to wow its visitors.  Nestled in a valley between the Jenner, Hagen, and Watzmann Mountains, Königssee is Bavaria’s deepest lake at 630 feet deep.  There we will sit to the local boat which pass us  glide past lazy boathouses, roaring waterfalls, and lofty mountain faces.  The red onion domes of Saint Bartholomä Church are breath-taking which  is on of the most beautiful place in the Alps. Every minute of the journey is picturesque and very relaxing. St. Bartholomew's Church is a pilgrimage chapel and is considered the oldest mountain pilgrimage in Europe. St. Bartholomew is said to be the protector of alpine farmers and of milkmaids. Since 16th century it has been built in the baroque style. It has two onion domes and a red domed roof. Apart from the church, this small village has a fish tavern, a hunting lodge which is now turned into an inn, a souvenir shop and few other small buildings. After we will return to Salzburg.
